SPECIAL NOTES: This week's Top 10 is devoid of half its members;
missing are #1 (for the sixth week in WABC's Top 40 history) and
numbers 2, 3, 5, and 9. The general consensus is that #1 is
probably "I Love Rock 'n Roll" by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts on
the Boardwalk label. Other candidates for #1, or for filling out
the rest of the vacancies in the Top 10 include "Centerfold" by
the J. Geils Band, on EMI America, Olivia Newton-John's "Physical"
(a former #1), "We Got the Beat" by the Go-Go's ( on I.R.S.), "Do
You Believe In Love" by Huey Lewis & the News (Chrysalis), and
"(Oh) Pretty Woman" by Van Halen (Warner Brothers). With the
exception of "Physical" (MCA), none of these songs were ever
played on WABC, which had softened its format to a more Adult
Contemporary sound by early 1982.
The Hot Prospect "Talkin' Baseball" by Terry Cashman that is shown
here is the national, or generic version. WABC often played the
New York Yankees' version.
