SPECIAL NOTES: This week's Top 10 does not have a #1 (for the 8th
week in WABC's Top 40 history) or numbers 3 and 6. The general
consensus is that #1 is probably "I Love Rock 'n Roll" by Joan
Jett & the Blackhearts on the Boardwalk label. The rest are
probably two of the following: "Centerfold" or "Freeze-Frame" by
the J. Geils Band, both on EMI America, "We Got the Beat" by the
Go-Go's (on I.R.S.), "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" by Daryl
Hall & John Oates (RCA), or Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" (a
former #1, on the MCA label). With the exceptions of Olivia
Newton-John and Hall & Oates, these songs were never played on
WABC, which had softened its format to a more Adult Contemporary
sound by early 1982.
"Talkin' Baseball" by Terry Cashman (at #38) is the national, or
generic version. WABC often played the New York Yankees' version.
